Blue Moon

I don't know about you, but this week has been very strange on so many levels. My business clients are all out of whack, my family, friends and colleagues are all out of whack, and I am even out of whack. I truly believe the full moon that has been building this week, and will present itself fully tonight, has really affected many of us in different ways. Nothing seems "right". Everyone I talk to tells me they "just don't feel right" this week. Things are completely off-kilter.

The legend of the full moon’s effects on human behavior has existed for centuries, popularized by the myth of the werewolf. The words “lunacy” and “lunatic” are derived from the same Latin root that gives us the word “lunar,” as people often attributed intermittent insanity to the phases of the moon. In fact, many people believe the full moon influences human behavior in various ways and is often referred to as the "Lunar Effect".

The Lunar Effect is basically a theory that the Earth's lunar cycle is directly connected to human behavior and can influence anything from fertility to deviant behaviors. I read that some doctors will not perform surgery around the time of the full moon because there is a belief that there is an increased possibility of death through blood loss. Police Departments claim to put more officers on the street at the time of the full moon to deal with the increases in crime rates at these specific times of the month. Keep in mind that there is no scientific data to truly back these claims up, but if you were to ask any of my relatives who served as police officers on the NYPD over the last 50 years, each one of them will tell you there is most definitely truth to these claims and that people's behavior during the time of the full moon can be almost "insane".

As I mentioned earlier, this week every one and every thing just seems to be "off". I am one of those who believe the full moon does affect human behavior to a certain extent so, since I have been hearing so much about the second full moon this month, I had to do some reading on the subject and find out what the hoopla is all about.

I read a very interesting article that basically explains that August 2012 provides us with an interesting celestial phenomenon that won't occur again until July 2015 - A second full moon, popularly known as the “Blue Moon”, which is a rarity in astronomy and astrology. Every month typically has one full moon and some believe on the day of a full moon, Mother Earth harnesses great amounts of energy. The time between one full moon and the next is usually the length of a calendar month. Two full moons in one month can only occur when the first full moon happens within the first few days of the new month. A "Blue Moon" happens every 2 to 3 years - hence the saying, "Once in a Blue Moon."

The August 2012 full moon happens in the sign of Aquarius. Aquarius is ruled by the planet Uranus and signifies positive expression, futuristic, independent, humanitarian, intuitive, inventive and clearer perception. It encourages loyalty and creative expression. When the moon is full, it is considered to be the highest time for manifesting goals, nurturing your passions, encouraging strength, power, love, knowledge, legal matters, money and dreams. It is the most potent time for rituals for prophecy, protection and any manifestation work that needs extra power.

Astrologically, the energy of the full moon works to integrate and harmonize the contradictions in the individual self as well as others. During a full moon, the seeds planted at the last new moon are ready to be harvested and utilized. Traditionally, the full moon is seen as a time for mediation for personal issues as well as global concerns. The Moon rules the mind and intellect. Prayers offered at this time have the most effect on an individual.

"During the blue moon, the vibration is said to be three-fold. In some cultures the second full moon was considered a very holy and auspicious day. A time when the veil between heaven and earth is thin and the ability to communicate with the gods and goddess is very powerful. It is considered a very spiritually significant time for prayer and meditation going back thousands of years."

Metaphysically, the Blue Moon represents our rare opportunity to fully express ourselves through communication and clarity of expression. The symbolic blue energy represents our throat Chakra. It's suggested to use this rare occasion to open up, relay your inner thoughts and creativity. What are you trying to express or communicate to others? What's the motivation behind your communication or lack thereof? What kind of signals are you sending out to others or The Universe? Utilize this "Blue Moon Moment" in time to contemplate your spoken and unspoken words.

It's interesting to see how the Moon holds so much significance in our existence. It is also interesting to me how different areas of science, spirituality, etc. explain the Moon's existence and/or its relevance in our world or plain of existence. It's also ironic that today happened to be the memorial service for the late astronaut Neil Armstrong who was the first man to set foot on the moon on July 20, 1969. His words, "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" will live on in infamy.

I know some of you may be thinking "what does this post have to do with Magdalene?" Well, I actually think it has a great deal to do with her. For those of you who have the privilege of knowing Magdalene on a personal level, you will know first and foremost that she is an incredibly warm, loving and caring individual who embraces all the people she encounters throughout her daily life as well as the animals she cares for or finds homeless, abandoned or injured. You will also quickly learn that she is wise beyond her years when it comes to understanding the relationship we as individuals have with Mother Earth and The Universe. Magdalene understands that we each have a role to play and that we are all connected. And just as the Earth, Moon and Stars are connected to the bigger picture - The Universe, we as individuals are also part of this connection. While Magdalene earns her living as as adult actress and entertains us with her beautiful work, she is also an individual who clearly understands that there is something bigger out there and we must respect that.

I have the privilege of knowing Magdalene on a personal level and chat with her about her thoughts on our existence as humans, where we came from, where we are going, the various dimensions of the Universe, etc. My goal is, and always has been, to share another side of Magdalene.
